Adjustable dumbbells replace a rack of fixed weights with one pair. They differ in how you change the weight (a dial, switches, pins or screw-on plates), how big the jumps are, how long the handles get at the heaviest setting, and how long the warranty runs. The five below go from a 5 to 52.5 lb dial set to a 125 lb pair.
Every specification on this page comes from the manufacturer’s own product page, checked on 26 October 2026. We have not used these products ourselves, so the picks are based on published specifications only.

1. BowFlex Results Series 552 SelectTech: for a first set with small jumps
The 552 uses BowFlex’s dial system to choose from 15 weights per dumbbell, from 5 to 52.5 pounds. BowFlex says the pair replaces 15 sets of weights. Below 25 pounds the steps are 2.5 pounds; above that they are 5 pounds.
- Settings: 5, 7.5, 10, 12.5, 15, 17.5, 20, 22.5, 25, 30, 35, 40, 45, 50 and 52.5 lb (BowFlex).
- Works with the BowFlex SelectTech stand, sold separately.
Pros: fine steps at light weights; quick dial changes.
Cons: tops out at 52.5 lb; shortest warranty here.

2. REP QuickDraw Adjustable Dumbbell (LB): for an almost all-steel build
QuickDraw dumbbells use Lock-N-Load steel switches that REP says have been cycled over 100,000 times; you flip one switch or several to add or drop plates, even without the cradle for drop sets. The build is almost all steel with nylon composite accents, and the handle is volcano-style knurled steel.
- Sold as 30, 40, 50 and 60 lb pairs (REP).
- REP recommends dropping it flat if you must drop it, since edge drops stress the dumbbell most.
Pros: steel switches; fast drop sets; lifetime warranty.
Cons: 5 lb jumps unless you accept a small imbalance with the micro plates.

3. Ironmaster Quick-Lock Adjustable Dumbbell System (75 lb set): for compact, rattle-free plates
Ironmaster’s Quick-Lock is a plate-loaded system: you add or remove plates and lock them with a partial turn of the locking screws. Ironmaster says the patented design locks up tight with no rattling. It adjusts in 2.5 lb steps from 5 to 75 lb per dumbbell and Ironmaster lists it at 9 inches long when set to 20 lb.
- Chrome-plated steel handles; 1.25 in grip; 6.5 in inside grip width; plates marked in lb and kg (Ironmaster).
- An add-on kit takes each dumbbell to 120 lb.
Pros: 2.5 lb steps across the range; compact; expandable; lifetime warranty.
Cons: slower to change than a dial or switch.

4. BowFlex Results Series 1090 SelectTech: for heavier lifts with a dial
The 1090 covers 10 to 90 pounds per dumbbell in 17 settings of 5 pounds each, and BowFlex says it replaces 17 sets of weights. It uses the same dial adjustment and metal plate-to-handle components as the 552 in a larger body.
- Works with the BowFlex SelectTech stand, sold separately (BowFlex).
Pros: heavy range with dial convenience.
Cons: 5 lb jumps throughout; largest dial dumbbell here.

5. REP x PEPIN FAST Series Adjustable Dumbbell: for the heaviest pair here
The PEPIN FAST Series is REP’s heavy adjustable dumbbell: up to 125 pounds each. You set the weight by pressing magnetic pop-pins out of the side-rail selector rods, sliding them and pressing them back in. REP says the dumbbells and cradles are fully metal, with nickel-plated knurled handles and Cerakote side rails with laser-etched markings.
- REP lists 85, 105 and 125 lb pairs in its comparison text; its size selector also shows a 65 lb pair.
- Lifetime warranty against defects in material, functionality and workmanship (REP).
Pros: heaviest range here; all-metal; lifetime warranty.
Cons: more weight than most beginners need.
